Ahead of the release of College Football 27, EA Sports unveiled its latest Toughest Places to Play rankings, and Clemson’s Death Valley continues to hold a place among the nation’s most respected home-field environments.
Memorial Stadium came in at No. 9 overall, a three-spot drop from last year’s game. Even with the slight slide, Clemson remains in rare company. The Tigers are the only program outside the SEC and Big Ten to appear in the top 17 of the rankings, a reminder of the reputation Death Valley has built over decades.
The ranking has moved around since EA Sports brought the franchise back. Clemson debuted at No. 12 in the 2024 edition before climbing to No. 6 a year later. This year’s placement keeps Death Valley firmly in the national conversation as one of the toughest venues for opposing teams, even if it isn’t quite as high as it was in the previous release.
The rankings also provide an interesting look at Clemson’s upcoming schedule. The Tigers will travel to Baton Rouge on Sept. 5 to face LSU in Tiger Stadium, the venue EA Sports ranked No. 1 overall. It will be the first time in the current run of the franchise that Clemson has played a road game against the stadium sitting atop the list.
There are additional challenging environments waiting later in the season. South Carolina’s Williams-Brice Stadium landed at No. 16, while Florida State’s Doak Campbell Stadium checked in at No. 21. Those road trips should give Clemson several opportunities to test itself in some of the sport’s most highly regarded atmospheres.
