A new Spartans running back received some notable preseason recognition on Monday.
Michigan State newcomer running back Cam Edwards has been named to the preseason Maxwell Award Watch List. The Maxwell Award has been annually presented to the College Player of the Year since 1937.
The full preseason watch list consists of 81 players in the FBS.
Edwards transferred to Michigan State this past season after a highly successful four-year career with UConn. He appeared in 36 games (redshirting during his first season), where he recorded 2,690 rushing yards, 467 receiving yards and 31 total touchdowns. This past season in particular, he ran for over 1,200 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced in early November. Hopefully, Edwards has a dominant season with the Spartans and finds himself in the mix for this award late in the year.
