Oklahoma OL coach Bill Bedenbaugh earns high praise

Oklahoma Sooners offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh is widely considered one of the best offensive line coaches in college football. Bedenbaugh has put together some of the best units during his tenure in Norman.

However, in the last couple of years, Oklahoma hasn't had the dominant offensive lines it once did. That's why the Sooners had to do some work in the recruiting ranks. Bedenbaugh put together a strong 2026 class led by Michael Fasusi and Ryan Fodje, but his 2027 class might be even better.

That class features five-star Kaeden Penny and five-star Cooper Hackett. The Oklahoma natives are the highlights of one of the strongest classes in college football. Rivals recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong said he believes the credit for landing the commitments of those players should be given to Bedenbaugh's reputation.

"Oklahoma's got arguably the top offensive line class in the country in 2027," Wiltfong said via the "Wiltfong Whiparound for Rivals on YouTube. "Highlight a top-10 class. Bill Bedenbaugh is one of the best in America, if not the best at the position. He's attracting top talent in 2028."

Bedenbaugh's track record remains one of Oklahoma's biggest recruiting advantages. Elite offensive line prospects know that development matters just as much as recruiting rankings, particularly when they're choosing between programs with similar resources and championship aspirations.

Wiltfong's comments also suggest the impact is extending beyond the 2027 class. Oklahoma is already using Bedenbaugh's reputation to attract top offensive line prospects in the 2028 cycle.

If Oklahoma can continue stacking classes like this, the Sooners could eventually restore the offensive line to the dominant level associated with Bedenbaugh's best units in Norman. The 2027 class is already a major step in that direction, and Bedenbaugh's reputation could keep paying dividends on the recruiting trail.
