It's Obvious Which SEC Team Has The Most to Lose Against Ole Miss This Season

The Ole Miss Rebels have some juicy matchups in store for the 2026 season.
Pete Golding will have multiple chances at signature wins during the regular season and could do some notable damage to other SEC contenders, though it's up for debate which of these teams would suffer the most in a potential loss to Ole Miss.
Some might argue the answer to this question is the LSU Tigers due to the lack of justification it would put on Lane Kiffin's decision to leave Ole Miss, but there's another obvious candidate.
Ole Miss Could Wreck the Texas Longhorns' Season
Since the Ole Miss-LSU game comes at such an early point in the season, it's hard to say that the Tigers have the "most to lose" in a potential defeat aside from getting laughed at as they leave Oxford. LSU will still have so much to play for even if it loses to Ole Miss in the third game of the season.
But it's possible that the same won't be said for the Texas Longhorns depending on how the start of the season goes.
Ole Miss and Texas will meet in Austin on Oct. 24 for the first matchup between the two programs since 2013, a win for the Rebels that was later vacated.
With the game coming in late October, both teams could have their College Football Playoff lives on the line, but the more likely of the two programs in danger of this is Texas.
Prior to facing Ole Miss, the Longhorns have three legitimately-losable games on their schedule: vs. No. 1 Ohio State, at No. 20 Tennessee and on a neutral field against No. 10 Oklahoma.
There's a real world where Texas drops at least two of those games, most likely to Ohio State and Oklahoma, and faces a win-out scenario as a result. As the Longhorns saw last year, a three-loss record doesn't get you into the CFP.
If Texas has two losses headed into Oct. 24, the Rebels will have a chance at essentally ending the Longhorns' championship hopes before the month of November.
And let's not forget what Ole Miss' record could look like at that point. The Rebels could very well be 5-1 headed into Austin and would love nothing more than to earn resume-defining win over Texas in what will arguably be the toughest game of the season for Golding and co.
Both teams will have so much to play for, but there's a real chance that the Longhorns will have little left to look forward to if Ole Miss hands them a third loss.
