Recruiting roundup: Texas A&M will host 150 prospects this weekend

Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and his staff will fully utilize Saturday's 2026 season opener vs. Missouri State, as Rivals Recruiting Director Steve Wiltfong revealed this week that the Aggies are set to host 150 prospects from the 2027, 2028, and 2029 recruiting cycles, including five of the program's six five-star commitments who have shut down their recruitments or are close to doing so.

Last week, 2027 five-star OT Mark Matthews told GigEm247 insider Cade Draughon that he is set to announce his recruitment shutdown sooner rather than later, which is good news for Elko and OL coach Adam Cushing, who covet Matthews as their top overall commit.

Joining Matthews in College Station this weekend, five-star safety Kamarui Dorsey, five-star linebacker Kaden Henderson, and five-star OL Kennedy Brown will also make their way back to campus. In combination with all four blue-chip commits, Wiltfong stated that eleven other 2027 commits will be in attendance for Texas A&M vs. Missouri State, including four-star quarterback Jayce Johnson, who could be the Aggies' future starting signal caller.

In the 2028 class, five-star quarterback Donald Tabron and four-star Edge Chance Archangel are the Aggies' lone commitments in the cycle, but after landing Tabron's commitment last month, Texas A&M is on pace to land several blue-chip 2028 prospects in the coming weeks/months, similar to last year's early success in the 2027 cycle.

"The nation’s No. 3 athlete CJ Whaley and his Atlanta (Texas) High safety teammate Drae Simmons are two prospects Texas A&M likes a lot. Tight ends coach Derek Shay extended a scholarship to in-state tight end Jay’Maree Bowens back in May. The Aggies are near the top of the list for in-state four-star offensive tackle Jai’storm Knight. Linebacker Israel Samuels and explosive defensive back Chris Clark, who is among the fastest players in America, will also attend."

Looking ahead to the 2029 recruiting class, the list will likely continue to grow before kickoff on Saturday, but right now, No. 2-ranked prospect and four-star quarterback Ryder Flugence sticks out as the top visitor in the cycle this early in his recruiting process.
