5-star Georgia QB decommit making his first career start

Former five-star Georgia Bulldogs quarterback commitment Jared Curtis will be making his first career start for the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday, Sept. 19 against the NC State Wolfpack. Curtis flipped from Georgia to Vanderbilt at the last moment before the early signing period. One big reason why Curtis flipped to Vanderbilt was a higher potential for early playing time.

Curtis lost the quarterback competition to start in Vanderbilt's Week 1 game to senior Blaze Berlowitz. However, now Curtis has the upper hand in the battle. Curtis was a five-star recruit and was widely regarded as the No. 1 quarterback in the class of 2026.

Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea named Curtis the starter ahead of the Commodore's Week 3 home game against NC State. Curtis scored three total touchdowns in Vanderbilt's 35-26 win over Delaware in Week 2. The true freshman completed 14 of 22 passes for 210 yards and one touchdowns pass. He added one rushing yard on eight carries and scored a pair of rushing touchdowns.

Comparatively, Berlowitz completed just three of nine passes for 29 yards against Delaware. Berlowitz and Vanderbilt managed to only put up 28 points in Week 1 against Austin Peay.

Curtis' start will be something for Georgia fans to keep an eye on because he was previously committed to UGA and because he could start for the Commodores in two weeks when Vanderbilt travels to Sanford Stadium. Through two weeks, Vanderbilt has 63 total points. Georgia is currently averaging 66.5 points per game, which is the most in the country.
