There are many college football analysts who believe the ACC runs through Miami (FL) this season. Miami after all made the College Football Playoff in 2025, before losing to Indiana in the national championship game. On Saturday, college football commentator Kirk Herbstreit gave his pick for Miami’s biggest threat in that conference.
Herbstreit is a big fan of the Louisville Cardinals football team.
“Ever since I watched them play against Ole Miss in that opener….I walked out of there thinking this team is for real,” Herbstreit said on ESPN’s College GameDay show. “…They are going to be around.”

Louisville currently has a 2-1 record on the season. The team’s only loss is to SEC power Ole Miss, and that was a close game. Louisville also has wins over SMU and Villanova.
Herbstreit thinks the schedule moving forward shapes up very well for Louisville. Heading into Saturday, the Cardinals do not play a single ranked team again for the rest of the season. That of course could change, depending on how things shake out this year in the ACC.
The Cardinals are also doing an excellent job so far at protecting the football.
“The Cardinals are one of six FBS programs yet to commit a turnover during the 2026 season – Maryland, New Mexico, Notre Dame, Penn State, South Alabama. This marks just the second time that Louisville has been turnover-free through the first three games of a season, having also done so in Jeff Brohm’s second season in 2024,” the school announced.
It isn’t all peaches and cream for Louisville. The Cardinals are dealing with a tough injury this season. Louisville lost linebacker Antonio Watts for the rest of the campaign. He is dealing with a knee issue.
The Cardinals are playing Wake Forest in an ACC conference game on Saturday.
