Nick Saban, who is considered one of the best college football coaches of all time, has been embracing the role of a broadcaster since his retirement. However, he continues to give fans a peek into his head coaching brain.
One of the players who wasn’t too hyped before the 2025 season and has now turned out to be one of the best is Mississippi State quarterback KaMario Taylor, who caught the attention of the seven-time national champion.

During Saturday’s segment of ESPN’s ‘College GameDay,’ Saban praised Taylor after the Mississippi State star helped lead the Bulldogs to a 3-0 start.
While praising the young quarterback, Saban made an honest confession and said that if he were still coaching, he would’ve tried to get the Bulldogs star into the transfer portal, a statement that didn’t sit well with many fans.
“We gotta stop this,” one fan said.
“This is BAD We shoot be rooting for top players to STAY at the school,” another fan commented.

“Screw him. Kamario isn’t going anywhere,” another fan stated.
“I feel bad for Mississippi state they Finnaly get something good and these vultures are obsessing over which team he should go next year 3 games into the season what a joke,” another fan shared their thoughts.
“saban been retired two years and still recruiting on live tv. man said the tampering part out loud. this used to be a DM now its a whole gameday segment lmao. mississippi state lawyers watching this like,” another fan highlighted.
”So Saban goes to Congress and says he basically wants “fairness” in the NIL era. But here he is salivating at the fact that Kamario Taylor can get in the portal and go to a blue blood? 🤦🏻♂️ FOH,” another fan said.
Taylor has been a key factor for the Mississippi St. offense, and it shows in their PFN CFB Team Offense Ranking, which is inside the top 10 with an 88.4 grade.
Taylor secured 354 passing yards and scored four TDs against ULM in week 1, 227 yards and three TDs against Minnesota in week 2, and then 251 yards and four TDs in the South Carolina comeback.

The backlash also comes against the backdrop of Saban’s repeated criticism of the current NIL and transfer-portal system, particularly what he views as a lack of enforceable rules and competitive balance.
Saban has also frequently shared that the new state of college football was one of the biggest reasons behind his decision to retire.
