Buckeyes' Jeremiah Smith Reminds College Football's GOAT HC of All-Time Great

Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban has likely seen some of the best players that college football has ever had. His stretch of teams in the 2010s was some of the best collections of talent that will ever grace a college football field.

That's unfortunately, a fact.

Saban is considered the greatest coach of all time, and for good reason. He joined the Rich Eisen Show on Monday and was asked what he sees in the Ohio State Buckeyes superstar Jeremiah Smith.

Smith is off to a ridiculous start to the season, especially after his 217-yard, four-touchdown day against Illinois. He is widely considered to be the best player in college football and might even put together a good enough year to potentially win the Heisman Trophy at the end of the season.

Certainly, he does not care about winning a trophy; he just cares about winning football games.

Eisen asked Saban about what he sees in Smith and whether he sees the potential that Smith could win the Heisman.

Saban laughed off the Heisman part of the question but did go a long way talking about Smith the player. Saban said that when he coached Julio Jones, he thought that Julio was a one-of-a-kind player.

That was until he saw Smith. Smith reminds Saban a lot of Jones because they can do a lot of the same things to each other. They are both physically intimidating people who can move like slot receivers. They both possess nearly perfect hands, and they are true students of the game.

It's a very easy comparison, one that has almost become cliché at this point because it is so easy to make. The good part is that if there is anyone to draw a comparison to, Julio Jones would be the one.

For my money, Smith is at the high end of Jones' talent and at the low end of whatever level comes next.

What we are getting to witness this year in Columbus is a true once-in-a-lifetime thing. There will never be another Jeremiah Smith, and it wouldn't be a surprise if Smith did enough to carry the Buckeyes to, and potentially through, the College Football Playoffs.

He is that kind of talent and he has been, and will continue to be so special to watch.

The Buckeyes will need him going forward, especially with the state of their defense. They need him to continue his incredible play, and if he does, the Buckeyes are going to be really hard to beat for the rest of the season.
