Things have not been going well at Michigan. The Wolverines have dropped two straight games, falling to both Iowa and Minnesota. The offense has struggled, and Michigan coach Kyle Whittingham has been left looking for answers.
Now, things are getting worse in Ann Arbor. Leaked texts from tight end Zack Marshall have been posted by the account College Transfer Portal on X, formerly Twitter.

The texts that were leaked were highly critical of the coaching staff.
“He had a meeting w all the tights and told us none of us are valuable to this offense,” one message read, speaking of the offensive coordinator Jason Beck.
“Basically, our offense sucks because if you blitz us, we have no answers… we have an extra OL on the field every play and run different versions of power read every play. Also, Beck tells Bryce where to go on every play, and it gets strapped. Bryce is a good QB; Beck is a problem. (I never said this and this better not ever leave this group chat),” another message read.
The situation this year was also compared to last season, under Sherrone Moore. The leaked texts claimed that the situation under Moore, when there were NCAA investigations around the program and many off-the-field controversies, was better than the current situation.
Now, Marshall is confirming that the texts were authentic.
“Last weekend, in the hours after we lost, I made some inappropriate comments that I regret. This game is won and lost as a team, and I pointed fingers instead of taking accountability. I let my frustrations speak for me in an emotional moment. I apologize to my teammates and coaches for the unnecessary drama that this has caused. I will always be proud to represent Michigan and will continue to give everything I have for this program. I love Ann Arbor, the Univeristy of Michigan, and Team 147,” the post on Marshall’s X account read.
Fans have been critical of the play calling and the offense under Beck. Still, messages from a player in the locker room being critical of the offense is a completely different situation.
There is clear internal frustration with the offense, and specifically disappointment in the quarterback, Bryce Underwood. It does not seem that Whittingham is in jeopardy of losing his job, but things need to turn around soon. Michigan has a week to figure things out. They will be off this week before hosting Penn State on October 17.
