Alabama high school football coach abruptly resigns 5 games into season

For the first time in five seasons, Dothan (AL) will have a new head coach running the show. And he'll be doing it midway through the season.

On Friday, the Dothan Eagles reported that Wolves head coach Jed Kennedy had suddenly stepped away from the program after four and a half years. The report noted that defensive coordinator Jimmie Tyson will serve as the interim head coach in the meantime.

Kennedy posted a statement to his X account addressing the decision to resign.

"This morning I was called into a meeting with upper administration to talk about our program," the statement reads. " After our discussion, I have decided to resign my position as head football coach. I know that I work in a profession where I am ultimately judged by our win/loss record and this season was not meeting the expectations. When times are tough, you can take two roads. I'm going to take the road of keeping my head high and thinking of the great moments from the last four and a half seasons and most importantly, the players I've been so fortunate to coach."
