College football fans searching for games on Saturday, August 22, will have to wait one more week for the FBS season to begin.

There are no FBS college football games scheduled for today, August 22. The 2026 FBS season kicks off Saturday, August 29 with Week 0, an eight-game slate stretching from North Carolina-TCU at noon ET through Memphis-UNLV at 10 p.m. ET.

That makes August 22 the final Saturday without FBS football before the season gets underway.

When Does College Football Start in 2026?

The first FBS games of the 2026 college football season are scheduled for Saturday, August 29.

Week 0 is the smaller opening slate that precedes the traditional Labor Day weekend launch. The first full week of the season begins Thursday, September 3, with most teams opening on Saturday, September 5.

For fans waiting to see ranked teams, Power Four programs and familiar national names, however, August 29 will already offer plenty to watch.

North Carolina and TCU open the FBS schedule at noon ET in Dublin, Ireland. Bill Belichick’s Tar Heels will be looking for a dramatically different result after TCU beat North Carolina 48-14 in Chapel Hill in Belichick’s debut last season.

USC, Florida State, Stanford, Virginia and NC State are also part of the opening-day schedule.

College Football Week 0 Schedule: August 29

Here is the FBS lineup currently scheduled for the first Saturday of the 2026 season. All times are Eastern.

North Carolina vs. TCU — 12 p.m., ESPN
The game will be played at Aviva Stadium in Dublin as part of the Aer Lingus College Football Classic.

San Jose State at No. 14 USC — 3 p.m., NBC
USC begins its season at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum after entering the preseason AP Top 25 at No. 14.

NC State at Virginia — 3:30 p.m., ESPN
The ACC opponents meet immediately rather than waiting for conference play later in the season.

Jacksonville State at North Dakota State — 5:30 p.m., CBS Sports Network

Sacramento State at Eastern Michigan — 6:30 p.m., ESPN+

New Mexico State at Florida State — 7 p.m., The CW

Hawaii at Stanford — 7 p.m., ACC Network

Memphis at UNLV — 10 p.m., FOX

The schedule gives fans FBS football from noon until late Saturday night, with games available across ESPN, NBC, CBS Sports Network, ESPN+, The CW, ACC Network and FOX.

When Is the First Full Saturday of College Football?

Week 0 gets the season started, but Saturday, September 5 is when the college football calendar expands dramatically.

Among the notable Week 1 games are Clemson-LSU, Boise State-Oregon, Colorado-Georgia Tech, Baylor-Auburn and Louisville-Ole Miss. Wisconsin and Notre Dame follow on Sunday in Green Bay.

That weekend will also bring the first games for many preseason contenders.

Ohio State enters the season ranked No. 1 in the AP poll, followed by Oregon, Georgia, Notre Dame and Texas. The SEC placed nine teams in the preseason Top 25, while Ohio State and Oregon gave the Big Ten the nation’s top two teams.

So while there isn’t FBS college football to watch on August 22, the wait is nearly over.

Week 0 begins August 29, the full opening week follows over Labor Day weekend, and college football Saturdays are officially one week away.
