Oklahoma State Cowboys walked into Saturday still carrying the sting of a 69-3 humiliation from a year ago and a season-opening stumble to Tulsa. Redshirt sophomore Drew Mestemaker, doubted by his own fanbase just one week earlier, had other plans. By the fourth quarter, one gutsy scramble would decide how completely the script had flipped in Stillwater.

Oklahoma State stunned No. 6 Oregon 39-31 on Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium, snapping a 21-game skid against FBS competition and handing first-year coach Eric Morris his first win with the Cowboys.
Mestemaker set the tone immediately, breaking a 75-yard run on the game’s opening snap. He finished 26 of 43 passing for 317 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 109 rushing yards and a score on just six carries.
The signature moment came with 10:21 left in the fourth quarter. Facing third down and trailing by one, Mestemaker pump-faked, dove through contact, and flipped into the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown that put Oklahoma State ahead 36-31 for good. He later sealed the win by keeping the ball on a third-down read option.

Oregon, a 23.5-point favorite, saw its offense stall behind quarterback Dante Moore, who completed just 14 of 29 passes for 191 yards. Oklahoma State outgained the Ducks 554-281, a stark reversal from last year’s 69-3 rout, when Oregon piled up 631 total yards against the Cowboys.
Mestemaker outduels Moore to become Cowboys’ unlikely hero
A week earlier, frustrated Oklahoma State fans were ready to move on from Mestemaker after a shaky loss to Tulsa in his Cowboys debut. The redshirt sophomore, a former walk-on who barely started in high school, followed Morris to Stillwater after throwing for a nation-leading 4,379 yards and 34 touchdowns last season at North Texas.
Saturday’s performance silenced the critics and outshined Dante Moore’s transfer to Oregon, a projected top pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, in front of 20 NFL scouts and Atlanta Falcons president Matt Ryan.
“I don’t know if I can top this,” Morris told ESPN.
The comment captured just how far this program has traveled in a single week, and it sets up an intriguing few weeks ahead for both sides.
Oklahoma State moves to 1-1 and hosts Murray State next Saturday, while Oregon drops to 1-1 and returns home to face Portland State on Friday as the Ducks try to steady a season already complicated by a brutal 2026 schedule.
