Eve opens up about why her marriage to Maximillion Cooper works after 12 years

The Grammy winner says marrying later in life, supporting each other’s passions and maintaining separate worlds have strengthened their bond.
Eve has no rulebook for her marriage. She says that’s rather the point.
Speaking with PEOPLE, the Grammy winner reflected on 12 years with Maximillion Cooper, the English entrepreneur behind the Gumball 3000 motor rally, whom she married in June 2014 after three years together. The 47-year-old attributed the relationship’s durability less to structure than to timing and temperament.
“I was already mid-thirties by the time we got married, and this is his second marriage,” she told the outlet, describing two people who arrived already fully formed. That foundation, she said, has produced a rhythm built on stepping back when needed, coming forward when needed, and staying as honest as possible with one another.
Their professional lives could hardly be less alike, but Eve framed that gap as an advantage rather than an obstacle. Cooper has attended plenty of her shows over the years and counts himself a fan, something she clearly values. “It is nice having a partner that really celebrates you doing the thing that you love,” she said.
The distance between their industries also gives them something to actually discuss. Eve noted that questions from someone outside your world tend to produce more interesting conversation, and that the separation allows each of them room to breathe.
The couple lives in London with their 4-year-old son, Wilde Wolf, while Eve is stepmother to Cooper’s four children from a previous relationship.
Her career calendar is filling up again. Last month she performed at a Spotify and Depop event in Los Angeles, running through material including “Who’s That Girl?” and “Tambourine.” In October, she heads out on a U.K. and European run marking the 25th anniversary of her sophomore album, “Scorpion.”
American dates remain undecided, and family logistics are driving that call. With Wilde starting school shortly, Eve told PEOPLE she wants to stay close to home for now, suggesting any U.S. leg might land in spring or summer of next year instead.
