Florida football recruits who have exceled so far in 2026 season

We're officially at the midpoint of the high school football season in Florida, and with it comes a time for reflection.

We spend a lot time in the offseason evaluating and projecting players, but nothing gets the job done like the regular season. With five weeks gone, we've seen players live up to the hype, shatter expectations, and everything in-between.

Dorien Jones is one player that has made the most of the first half of the season. The Venice running back has been invaluable for the undefeated Indians, notching two game-winning touchdown runs in double-overtime against elite defenses while balancing Venice's offense with reliable, sturdy carries.

Jones, and FIU commit, was ranked as the No. 85 player in the USA TODAY Florida Pre-Spring Top 100. Now five games into the year and up to 590 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on 81 carries, he's jumped up to No. 41 overall and the No. 1 RB in the state.

Jones is not the only recruit that has put on a show halfway through the season. Here are recruits that have impressed in the first half of the year:

Fred Ards III, Jones 2027 EDGE

Ards III was a coveted prospect entering his senior season and has impressed at every turn. The Texas A&M commit is the No. 9 overall player in the state, and has found a home in the backfield alongside a loaded Tiger defensive line. Ards (6-foot-5, 220 pounds) has impressed with polished technique, timing and his size/strength are best in class at the position.

Brody Brenneman, Lakeland Christian 2027 QB

Brenneman, a USF commit, has been surgical through the Vikings' 5-0 start. he's completed 70-percent of his passes (56-of-80) for 918 yards, 19 touchdowns, and no interceptions. He's added another 127 yards and two touchdowns with 14 carries.

AJ Chung, West Orange 2028 QB

The Vikings are a perfect 5-0 midway through the year with Chung leading the charge. The 6-foot, 175 pound signal caller has thrown just one interception on 119 attempted passes with 17 touchdowns and 1,219 yards. Chung has not thrown for less than 100 yards in a single game, and went the first four weeks of the year completing over 50-percent of his passes with no interceptions.

Connail Jackson, Cardinal Mooney 2027 RB

Jackson is on pace for another monster season for the Cougars. The No. 81 player in the state has been a mainstay in the offense, tallying 925 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 69 carries through four games — on pace for back-to-back 2,000 rushing yards seasons.

Eric McFarland III, IMG 2027 WR

McFarland III (No. 6) originally reclassified from the class of 2028, and it's easy to see why five games into the season. The Texas A&M commit has been a matchup nightmare all year, and he leads the Ascenders in receptions (20), receiving yards (425) and receiving touchdowns (seven). He's also a dangerous return man on special teams — and had a kick return touchdown called back against Cornerstone Christian (Utah) before catching a touchdown catch on the next play to rectify the box score.

Larry Morgan III, West Boca Raton 2027 CB

The Bulls have always had a strong defense under head coach Dylan Potts, and Morgan III has been a crown jewel in a loaded and effective secondary. The USF commit has tallied two interceptions, four pass breakups and a tackle for loss through four games.

Jacquari Parks, Ed White 2027 CB

Parks, a Wake Forest commit, made his debut in the Class of 2027 Top 100 in the midseason update (No. 90). The lengthy corner has been a disruptive presence this year, and has racked up an interception, 3 PBUs and 12 tackles with one TFL.

Terrell Pinkney, II Trinity Christian 2027 LB

Don't let the Conquerors' record fool you, they are the best 2-3 team in the state. Trinity Christian's defense has been lights-out against some of the best offenses in the state, and Pinkney has been invaluable halfway through the year. At 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, the USF commit serves as a hybrid linebacker/safety that has impressive coverage skills. He's up to 24 tackles, four TFLs, three sacks, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery — and has risen up to No. 50 overall in the state.

Kaneilius Purdy, Lake Wales 2027 ATH

Purdy is ranked as the No. 27 overall recruit in Florida and No. 3 ATH, and he has had his fingerprints all Lake Wales' strong first half of the year. The UCF commit has reeled in a team-high 26 catches for 511 yards and eight touchdowns. He's added 26 tackles on the other side of the ball, and has a 60-yard touchdown pass on the books to boot.

Tyler Reid, St. Thomas Aquinas 2027 RB

Reid has jumped up in the USA TODAY Florida rankings, going from the No. 90 overall player in the state after spring football to No. 70 midway through the year. His breakout game came on a national stage against Columbus, when he took 13 carries for 338 yards and three scores. The Pitt commit is up to 574 rushing yards and seven total touchdowns for the Raiders, which sit ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation midway through the year.

Andre Scott, Port Charlotte 2029 S

Scott (6-foot, 190 pounds) has grown both in size and reputation, earning a strong of offers from the likes of Florida and Auburn over the spring and backing it up with elite play for the Pirates. The sophomore has been key for a Pirate squad that struggled to get healthy in the first part of the year. Scott is up to 17 tackles and continues to project as an elite safety as each week passes.

Janarro Sumpter, Cardinal Newman 2027 ATH

The Crusaders sit firmly in the mix for an Open Division bid midway through the season, and have leaned heavily on Sumpter on both sides of the ball. He’s carried the rock 62 times for 503 yards and nine touchdowns and added two interceptions and three TFLs.

Hudson West, Sarasota 2028 QB

The Sailors continue to improve, with a 4-1 start to this season averaging over 45 points per contest. West (6-5, 185 pounds) is up to 1,351 passing yards and 19 touchdowns, completing 74-of-106 passes with just one interception through five games.
