Georgia and Oklahoma By the Numbers Indicates Huge Advantage for Bulldogs

The Georgia Bulldogs are hosting the Oklahoma Sooners this week in the biggest game of the season so far after the Dawgs have made quick work of their opponents over the first three weeks.

Georgia is outscoring its opponents by 138 points and has not been tested at all to this point, and the Sooners — who are going through some struggles of their own — are going to try to be the first led by a tremendous defense.

That SEC Podcast took a look at the matchup by the numbers in terms of where each team ranks in various statistical categories, and the results certainly seem to favor the Bulldogs.

Georgia Looks Better in Most Statistical Categories

The most glaring gap between the two sides is obviously in scoring offense. While the Bulldogs have scored more than anyone in the country in the first three weeks, the Sooners are struggling drastically and John Mateer looks completely lost while operating the offense. Ranking No. 81 in the nation in passing offense and No. 123 in the nation in rushing offense, it has been a slog for Oklahoma.

Georgia likely is not the best offense in the country, but getting to measure themselves against a real defense (the Sooners rank No. 4 in scoring defense) will show a whole lot.

Offensively, there simply is not a comparison between the two teams right now no matter what category you name. From explosive plays, to third down to everything in between, the Bulldogs are simply a much better unit on that side of the ball.

How great the Oklahoma defense actually is could determine the chances that this game is even close or not. Given that Georgia is roughly two touchdown favorites, so the chance does exist that things could get out of hand if things are going well for the Bulldogs on offense.

On the flip side, the Sooners being able to create turnovers, keep Georgia behind the sticks and in turn out of the red zone could have them very much in the ball game late in the second half.

At the end of the day, this is still a strong Oklahoma team capable of taking the Dawgs to the edge, but if Georgia can take advantage of their weaknesses and force the Sooners into doing things they do not want to do, Kirby Smart and his team should be just fine.
