Florida State's Mandrell Desir named sophomore standout by CBS Sports

Florida State football didn’t have a good 2025 season, but freshman defensive lineman Mandrell Desir displayed that he was ready for the collegiate stage right from the jump. By season’s end, he was one of the Seminoles’ most important defenders.

He ended up garnering several accolades, and he was recently named one of the top 100 players by On3 heading into the upcoming season. Brad Crawford of CBS Sports feels he’ll continue to be a menace in 2026 as he named him one of the sophomores who could affect how things play out in the College Football Playoff.

This is the more productive of the Desir twins up front for the Seminoles after he recorded 30 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks last season as a freshman before earning All-ACC Honorable Mention and ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year runner-up accolades. Desir’s sack total was the third-most in program history for a first-year player, and he ended the campaign with at least 0.5 sacks in five consecutive games. Like his brother, Darryll, Mandrell Desir played in every game, starting twice. Florida State retaining the Desir family on its 2026 roster was imperative to its defensive rebuild.

The improvement FSU saw defensively last season in the first year under defensive coordinator Tony White can be attributed in large part to Desir and his ability to cause disruption as a pass rusher and a run defender. If Florida State is to turn things around and make its first bowl game in three years, Desir will have to be a major factor once again.
