The Georgia football program is just days away from kicking off its 2026 college football season. The Bulldogs are looking to bounce back after two straight early playoff losses in the Sugar Bowl and rekindle their mini-dynasty from the early portion of the decade.
Recently, Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart was asked about the growing trend of former NFL players returning to the college football world, a story that Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers have been at the center of in recent weeks, and he understandably declined to go into too much detail about his thoughts.
“I really don’t even know what you are asking. I’m confused by the question. We are set with what we got,” said Smart, per Bryce Koon of GloryGlory on X, formerly Twitter.

Smart has long been known to either feign ignorance or take a diplomatic approach to some of the more controversial topics in the college football landscape, so his answer isn’t exactly a surprise.
Some fans have taken issue with players who declared their draft eligibility and were signed to NFL organizations taking their talents back to college after being cut during training camp, while others have opined that since those players haven’t actually participated in games at the NFL level, that backlash is unjustified.
Meanwhile, Smart’s focus seems to be on the field, where Georgia has a couple of tune-up games against small schools before getting ready for the grind of an SEC schedule. Time is ticking on Georgia to get back into the championship mix before the success of this era becomes a thing of the past.
The Bulldogs are set to kick off their new season on Saturday against Tennessee State.
