The Georgia Bulldogs are officially in game week with fans ready to storm the gates at Sanford Stadium and get back to the best time of the year after a very long offseason.

While the weather in the deep south may still be scorching, it's officially football season as the Bulldogs get ready to take the field. One of the strengths of the roster is the offensive line as a whole, and while it may be tougher than ever to stack depth in college football, there is some legitimately tremendous reinforcements in the back end for Georgia.

One particular area of strength is center, as Drew Bobo is one of the best in all of college football. It goes well beyond just Bobo though, and it sounds like in fall camp, the Bulldogs have found their center of the future. According to UGA Sports On3, Cortez Smith has separated himself this fall and is the clear answer to the equation.

Cortez Smith Looks Like Georgia Center of the Future

"Smith has come on strong. He was a young freshman last year and battled some injuries," Jeremy Johnson of UGA Sports On3 wrote. "He’s healthy, older and stronger. Smith has become a potential key backup and could play a significant role in easing Bobo back into the fold. Smith has positioned himself as the center of the future."

This feels extremely notable after Malachi Toliver played late last season when Bobo was out due to injury, but clearly this was because Smith was young an inexperienced rather than not good enough to do the job. He has come into his second fall camp as a guy who is a can't miss prospect, and Bobo being banged up likely means he will see real time early this season regardless.

Beyond that though, Bobo is gone from college football after this season, and the former four-star recruit is clearly developing the way the staff wants to see while he continues to get better each and every day.

Not only will Smith play a significant role on this team in terms of depth both at center and guard in 2026, but he looks like a future program cornerstone of the offensive line. When Georgia takes the field this week, count on Smith being on the field early and often, and in the years ahead, he may just be the program's next star at the center position.
