Kansas State vs Tulane: 2026 Game 3

The world sure looks nice when your football team is beating the pants off their opponents.
For two weeks in a row now, the Kansas State Wildcats came out and imposed their will on another visitor to Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The trick will be to see if they can do it again for a third-straight week, against a team that’s been strange stumbling block for the Wildcats as of late.
Last week, the offense mostly hummed, especially on the ground. The defense was again lights-out, a did not give up a point to an FBS opponent thanks to a blocked field goal by Jordan Allen (yes, Wazzu scored, but it was on a pick-6 with the defense on the bench). K-State has put up an impressive display through two weeks, and there’s no reason that shouldn’t continue against a Tulane squad that enters today at 1-1 on the season.
The Green Wave, on their third coaching staff since this series first began in 2022, dropped their season opener at Duke 17-3 before holding off South Alabama 28-24 last weekend in New Orleans. On paper, Tulane is a significantly weaker opponent than Washington State. And yet, this is the most dangerous game in the non-conference after how the last two games in this series have gone, despite the coaching changes for both programs.
But Collin Klein was here in 2022, when he was still the offensive coordinator. His terse response at the press conference earlier this week indicates he’s ready to exorcise some demons. Regardless of how the last two game have looked — either this season or the last two in the series — this is likely not going to be a fun game for Tulane. This feels like the kind of game where the Cats first-string defense comes out late to preserve a shutout. At least, that’s what the energy around the program and Manhattan this week is pointing to.
But the Cats still need to execute. Avery Johnson needs to be a bit more careful passing. The K-State defense needs to continue to play like their opponent kicked their dog. And the coaching staff needs to continue to put the right guys in the right positions to make plays.
Time to go out and send this wave back out to sea.
