Michigan football coach Kyle Whittingham makes Big Ten Media Days debut

CHICAGO − The first time Kyle Whittingham spoke as Michigan football coach, it was a hotel ballroom in Florida. Fast forward just more than seven months to the day and he's speaking in the international ballroom at the Hilton in the Windy City.

Between those two appearances, the 66-year-old hired almost an entirely new staff in Ann Arbor, turned over his roster and set the standards both in the weight room and on the field with increased levels of accountability and discipline.

Is it enough to get the Wolverines back to their winning ways from 2021-23?

Michigan kicks off its 2026-27 season in 37 days on Sept. 5 against Western Michigan (7:30 p.m., NBC) at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor − fall camp will start in the middle of next week, providing just more than one month to ramp up to that moment under the lights.

First, Whittingham was in front of the TV lights, addressing his team, its outlook and expectation after yet another offseason was sidetracked with scandal.

Michigan football, Whittingham's schedule at media days

Kyle Whittingham will speak to media at the main podium at noon (central time) for 15 minutes.

Michigan's three select players, quarterback Bryce Underwood, running back Jordan Marshall and defensive tackle Trey Pierce, will then meet at individual podiums from 1:00-1:45 p.m. before Whittingham wraps up U-M's day with a 45-minute interview from 1:45-2:30 p.m.
