Michigan loses out to Oregon for 5-star Harper Woods WR Dakota Guerrant

Michigan football appears to have missed on its top wide receiver target in the class of 2027.

Dakota Guerrant, a five-star product out of Harper Woods, appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show" on Tuesday, June 16, where he committed to Oregon, the top perceived school in his recruitment in recent months. The Wolverines were in his top-five and made a push to land the top recruit in the state in this cycle, but a recent visit to Eugene at the beginning of the month was perhaps enough to land the pledge for the Ducks.

Ohio State, LSU and Texas A&M rounded out his top five.

Guerrant was scheduled to take an official visit next weekend to Ann Arbor for "Victors Weekend" − it's not immediately clear if that's off the table or not. Guerrant and his mother told The Free Press earlier this month that he originally planned to commit in late July, a timeline which has clearly since moved up.

"This was always my dream school growing up," Guerrant told McAfee of Oregon. "When they started recruiting me, they felt like family from the start. It just kept building with them, and how they do with their receivers and how they're producing, I've just seen myself there from the start."

Guerrant was a Max Preps Junior All-American last season, primarily playing as a wide receiver but also lining up at quarterback, contributing at corner and safety and handling special teams duties on kickoff and punt return. Guerrant helped Harper Woods go undefeated in his junior season, hauling in 59 receptions for 1,217 yards and 27 touchdowns, while adding 600 yards and three touchdowns as a kick returner.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound wideout, the No. 1 player in Michigan, the No. 6 wide receiver in the country and No. 35 overall player among rising seniors, according to 247Sports' composite rankings.

Michigan, which currently has the No. 22 rated class in the cycle, recently hosted five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson on a visit and has a number of key targets coming into town for its largest recruiting event of the year, which begins on Friday, June 19.
