Nebraska coach Matt Rhule reveals identity he wants for team in 2026

Nebraska coach Matt Rhule spoke at Big Ten media days last week and discussed the identity he wants for his team. Rhule sat down with the Big Ten Network and dove into a little bit more detail.

This is a crucial third season for Rhule. The latter currently sits at 19-19 and has a chance to get his first ranked win with a difficult schedule this season. He has an experienced roster, led by veteran quarterback Anthony Colandrea.

Colandrea’s dual-threat ability certainly allows for more explosive plays. A running back room led by Mehki Nelson and a wide receiver room with several key returners should also help supplement the offense. The defense has several new additions via the transfer portal and appears more aggressive under defensive coordinator Rob Aurich.

Fans and commentators have questioned the identity of the offense in the past. However, it’s clear Rhule knows which way he wants to go.

“Like I want our team to go out and never beat themselves, you know, play with great execution, be really physical, make explosive plays and win the situational battle, right? That’s just to me that’s how you win. And so with the O-line we have, with the D-line we have, with the quarterback we have, with the playmakers outside on offense, this is who we want to be. We want to be able to run the football when we want and we want to be able to make big plays in the passing game.”

 Nebraska undoubtedly has the chance to be explosive on both sides of the football. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out, especially as the Huskers have one of the toughest schedules in the conference.
