Nick Saban blames alumni and boosters for recent college football coach firings

Former Alabama head coach Nick Sabanappeared on Theo Von’s podcast and discussed a wide range of topics, including the large number of college football coaches fired last year.

Saban, who spent 17 seasons as Alabama’s head coach and led the program to six national titles, said asking boosters for more and more money to pay players is negatively affecting how long coaches stay at their schools.

“The cause and effect of paying players is we’re raising money from alumni who now think they should have a say in what happens, and that’s why 33 coaches got fired last year,” Saban said, via On3.

This is the new age of college sports, and it’s not going anywhere. Once Pandora’s box opened, there was no going back.

The trend of firing coaches is likely to continue this year because more and more teams want to rebuild as soon as possible.

It’s going to get crazy once we get to the end of the regular season and right before the start of the College Football Playoff.
