It was another eventful weekend of the 2026 college football season. Week 5 didn't disappoint and there were some big wins, close calls and a couple of major upsets that shook up this week's Top 25 Coaches Poll rankings. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish remain the No. 3 ranked team in the country by the US LBM Coaches Poll after their 37-26 victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels on the road. 

The Irish entered the matchup 4-0 and advanced to 5-0 for the first time in head coach Marcus Freeman's tenure. The 5th-year head coach has the Irish firing on all cylinders. Yesterday was their 15th straight win dating back to last season. It was also their 15th straight win by double digits, a streak that I've never seen in my lifetime until the past 12 and a half months. 

Notre Dame's run game had it's coming out party of the 2026 season rushing for 241 yards and averaging 5.4 yards per carry on the ground. But that didn't stop junior quarterback CJ Carr from having, arguably, his best performance in a Notre Dame uniform. The Saline, Michigan native threw for 234 yards, completed 72% of his passes, threw four touchdowns and rushed for another score. In a game where the offense needed to step up and help out the defense, they succeeded. 

The overall slate of college football this weekend did not disappoint. After picking up a big win last weekend, the Florida Gators traveled to Missouri to take on the Tigers and were soundly beaten 45-17 causing them to drop to No. 15 in this week's Coaches Poll. Missouri jumped up to No. 16 after ranking 25th going into the weekend. 

Alabama continues to roll and dominated Mississippi State on the road 56-23. After their 33-point victory, the Crimson Tide now rank No. 7 in the Coaches Poll while the Bulldogs fell to No. 20. The Ohio State Buckeyes were on the road against the Iowa Hawkeyes and maintained their dominance in that series beating them 31-14 on the road. Iowa now ranks No. 18 in the Coaches Poll.
