Notre Dame football is set for another huge recruiting weekend. One of their top 2027 targets will be visiting elsewhere.
Notre Dame football is riding a lot of recruiting momentum over the last few weeks. Head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish are hoping to have another successful official visitor season when it starts towards the middle of July. For now, they need to wait and watch as some other prominent programs begin hosting top 2027 recruiting targets this weekend.
That includes head coach Mike Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies, and they are set to welcome a long list of impressive players to College Station. There may not be a more important target set to visit campus than five-star Lake Charles (La.) Sam Houston offensive lineman Albert Simien. Viewed as the last piece toward an elite offensive lone class for Notre Dame and assistant coach Joe Rudolph, the team is set to make a strong push down the stretch.
While LSU is certainly a contender for Simien, most believe that the Aggies and Fighting Irish are the two top contenders to know right now. The Simien family didn’t grow up watching LSU football, which has helped the chances for Texas A&M and Notre Dame, and they have taken advantage of. Freeman and Co. now need to wait patiently to see how Simien’s first official visit goes this weekend.
With Simien set to visit South Bend again on June 19-21, Notre Dame needs to keep his recruitment open until then. The Irish have the last official visit, which could end up mattering a ton, or not at all. Notre Dame holds commitments from Oluwasemilore Olubobola, James Halter, Richie Flanigan, and Jackson Hill on their offensive line already.
Simien is viewed as the final piece toward landing one of the best offensive line classes that the team has signed in a long time, assuming that they can close on him.
Albert Simien’s recruiting background
Simien is considered to be at least a four-star and top-50 overall player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Simien currently ranks as a five-star, the No. 13 overall player, the No. 2 interior offensive lineman, and the No. 2 player from the state of Louisiana for the 2027 recruiting class.
Just like his recruiting rankings, Simien’s offer list is elite. Some of the top programs that have offered him include the Fighting Irish, Alabama, LSU, Michigan, Florida, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Auburn, Florida State, Nebraska, TCU, West Virginia, Arkansas, UNC, Baylor, SMU, and Houston, among others.
