Oklahoma Sooners tumble in latest US LBM Coaches Poll after loss

The Oklahoma Sooners had a rough day at the office on Saturday. The 17-10 loss to the Michigan Wolverines in a game Oklahoma was a road favorite in was only exacerbated by Oklahoma State's big win over Oregon and Texas' come-from-behind win over Ohio State. After their disappointing loss, the Sooners dropped from No. 10 in the nation to No. 21 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll.

The Sooners left Ann Arbor with a lot of questions about an offense that went just 3 of 13 on third down and failed to generate 300 yards of total offense. The Sooners rank 104th in the nation in total yards per game at this point. Not the improvement we wanted this offseason.

After the second week of action, there's a new No. 1. The Texas Longhorns moved up to No. 1 after their comeback win over Ohio State. Arch Manning led Texas back from a 20-3 halftime deficit to beat the Buckeyes. It was arguably the most important win of the Steve Sarkisian-Arch Manning era of Texas football.

The Georgia Bulldogs stayed at No. 2, giving the SEC the top two teams in the updated coaches' poll. Following Texas and Georgia, Notre Dame comes in at No. 3, followed by Indiana and Miami to round out the top five. The Buckeyes dropped to No. 6, and the SEC makes up the rest of the top 10, with LSU at No. 7, Texas A&M at No. 8, Ole Miss at No. 9, and Alabama at No. 10.

The Sooners will have plenty of opportunities to regain votes and return to the top 10. This week, the Sooners will play New Mexico, but the following week they'll face Georgia. Then comes the Red River Showdown. Those two games will tell the tale of the Oklahoma Sooners season. Lose both of those games and the College Football Playoff is likely out of the equation.
