The Oklahoma Sooners are entering their third week of fall camp as the 2026 college football season fast approaches. Oklahoma is coming off an impressive 10-3 season in its second year in the SEC, returning to the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2019.

However, just like the four previous College Football Playoff appearances for the Sooners, they didn't win a single game in the playoff. So, general manager Jim Nagy and head coach Brent Venables went to work to improve the team to finally put their postseason demons to bed.

One of the biggest additions for the Sooners this offseason was Colorado State Rams tight end Rocky Beers. He snagged 31 passes for 388 yards and seven scores last season. He comes to Norman as part of the revamping of the tight end room. According to On3's Pete Nakos, Beers has been one of the 20 under-the-radar transfers in college football to shine in fall camp.

"While Hayden Hansen has the starting tight end job locked for Oklahoma, the Sooners have been extremely impressed by the Colorado State transfer in the early goings of camp," Nakos wrote. "A red-zone target in the passing game, he’s barely dropped the ball in practice and has shown upside in yards after the catch, sources said. Oklahoma is confident Beers will add another element to its passing game this season."

Beers' ability to make plays in the red zone could be particularly valuable for quarterback John Mateer. Oklahoma needs to turn more drives into touchdowns, and having a tight end who can consistently win near the goal line would give Mateer another option when defenses tighten up.

The fact that Beers is already earning praise during camp makes his potential impact even more intriguing. He doesn't need to be Oklahoma's No. 1 tight end to become an important part of the offense.

If Beers continues making plays when the lights come on, the Colorado State transfer could quickly go from an under-the-radar addition to one of Oklahoma's most important offensive weapons.
