Lane Kiffin's return to Oxford started out as expected. The LSU Tigers coach faces the team he once built with unprecedented hype in college football's biggest matchup in Week 3.

Don't expect kind words from either side before this SEC brawl. For Rebels athletic director Keith Carter, the emotions are still very raw. Ole Miss has spent time, energy and resources on making sure this game goes off without a hitch.

"We just want closure," Carter told ESPN's Marty Smith on Saturday.

"We certainly didn’t love how things transpired, some things happening behind the scenes to try to sabotage our team. So we want to put some closure on this. The AD needs it. The fans need it. The team needs it. I hate that this has turned into the spectacle that it has. It hurt us, the way that was handled on that side back then. But we’re ready to move forward, to worry about our team. And hopefully Lane will worry about LSU after this weekend.”

Kiffin has become the college football's most polarizing figure. He tried to stay and coach in the College Football Playoff, which at the time seemed odd at the time. Carter said, "No way." Now, eight months later, Kiffin returns seeking revenge.

He will forever be known as the coach who led Ole Miss football to their best season in school history. But for many, that comes with an asterisk. He never got to finish the season with the Rebels, and will likely be remembered as the one who gave up early.

Carter wants to put the Kiffin saga behind him. For the Rebels' sake, it's time to move on. Regardless of what he might say pubically, Carter would be overly satisfied with a victory to keep Ole Miss' perfect season intact.

The long-awaited game between Ole Miss and LSU is finally here. No more pregame chatter and back and forth between both sides. It's time to lay it all on the line. Kickoff is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
