Ole Miss football was tabbed as the number ten team in the country in the preseason USA Today coaches poll released on Tuesday.

Ohio State took the top spot in the coaches poll with nine SEC schools ranked in the top 25 overall. The Rebels replacing its head coach position and a good portion of its coaching staff didn’t dissuade coaches from around the country from predicting success for Ole Miss this season.

Defending champions Indiana came in just outside the top five while voting members made it clear the SEC is likely a battle between Georgia and Texas in the top four nationally.

Out of the preseason top 25, Ole Miss will face No. 3, No. 4, No. 9, No. 13 and No. 25 this season. Let’s go ahead, be fans and get crazy thinking about the end of the season. If Ole Miss can get to 10-2 with losses only to Georgia and Texas, Rebels fans could find themselves in a playoff game again this postseason based on this first batch of rankings. Or just win all the games and don’t sweat a playoff committee imo.

This does at the very least confirm a lot of hype for this upcoming season and places a sizable target on Ole Miss’ back for the first game of the season against Louisville in a neutral site game.
