Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss makes early Heisman case with 4 TD vs. Louisville

No. 9 Ole Miss opened the 2026 College Football season with a 41-38 win over No. 24 Louisville at Nissan Stadium. The Rebels survived a wild second half, scoring 41 points after struggling early.
Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss led the comeback with 396 total yards and four touchdowns. He threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns while adding 60 rushing yards and another score.
Chambliss overcame an interception and a lost fumble before taking control after halftime. He connected with Deuce Alexander for two 62-yard touchdowns in the third quarter.
Louisville erased a 14-point deficit late, setting up a tense finish. With 90 seconds left, Chambliss moved Ole Miss 40 yards without a timeout.

His biggest play came on third-and-6, when he found Caleb Odom for 18 yards. That completion put Ole Miss close enough for Lucas Carneiro to attempt the winning 48-yard field goal.
Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel immediately framed the performance as a Heisman statement. “Trinidad Chambliss has officially launched his Heisman campaign…,” Daniel wrote on X.
Former player Emmanuel Acho went even further, writing, “Trinidad Chambliss has to be the early Heisman favorite!” Acho cited Chambliss’ production against a ranked opponent on national television.
Trinidad Chambliss gets his first major Heisman test
The numbers matter, but the context makes Chambliss’ opener more important. Ole Miss faced a ranked Louisville team, and Chambliss produced when the Rebels needed him most.
The slow start also provides a useful warning. Ole Miss committed a turnover and struggled to sustain its offense before halftime, putting unnecessary pressure on its quarterback.
Chambliss responded with a second-half performance that changed the game. His deep passing opened the field, while his rushing ability gave Ole Miss another answer against Louisville.
“We fought until the end, so just happy we got the win,” Chambliss said after the win.
An early Heisman case needs more than one explosive night. Still, Chambliss now has a ranked win and a nationally visible performance on his resume.

The schedule gives him another major opportunity soon. Ole Miss hosts Charlotte on Sep. 12 before facing No. 11 LSU on Sep. 19.
The Rebels then travel to Florida on Sep. 26. Those games should provide a clearer measure of whether Chambliss can sustain his opening-night level.
But right now, his four-touchdown performance has put him firmly into the early Heisman conversation. More importantly, it showed Ole Miss can rely on him when games become difficult.
