Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore is expected to competOregon Loses 15 Touchdown Help for Dante Moore Due to Training Camp Injurye for the Heisman Trophy this season thanks to a talented receiver corps that includes Dakorien Moore, Jeremiah McClellan, Evan Stewart, and tight end Jamari Johnson.
Part of the reason why Dante was capable of throwing for 3,565 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions last season was a robust running game that rushed for 2,979 yards and 35 scores.
Noah Whittington was the lead back last season, but Jordon Davison was set to take his place as RB1 with Whittington on the Houston Texans 90-man roster in training camp.
Per Zachary Neel of Ducks Wire, Davison suffered an injury in training camp and is expected to be out for six to eight weeks.
"According to multiple sources close to the program, starting running back Jordon Davison has suffered an injury this past week that is expected to hold him out for the next 6-8 weeks, lasting throughout the remainder of camp and into the regular season," Neel wrote.
Davison rushed 113 times for 667 yards and 15 touchdowns last season, his freshman year for the Ducks.
The timeline makes it unlikely Davison would return during Oregon's non-conference contests against Boise State, Oklahoma State, and Portland State. The Ducks would be fortunate if he could return when Oregon travels to play USC on Sept. 26.
With Davison out, the Ducks will need to turn to sophomore running back Dierre Hill Jr. early in the season. The five-foot-11, 205-pound running back rushed for 656 yards and five touchdowns on 75 carries in 2025.
Sophomore Da'Jaun Ruggs could be lined up for more carries too, and Davison. He rushed for 86 yards on 17 carries last year.
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning prides his offense on being strong in the run. The robust rushing attack opened up the passing game for Moore last season.
Without Davison, Oregon could decide to lean more on the passing game during its tough non-conference schedule. Where things get really dicey is the USC game, as the matchup is expected to be between two College Football Playoff teams.
Obviously, the Ducks have national championship aspirations, and they want to keep Davison healthy for a deep run in the CFP.
