Oregon Upset by Oklahoma State in Shocking Week 2 Matchup

The Oregon Ducks struggled for a second straight week, and they couldn't pull off the comeback in Week 2 against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Oregon entered the season as one of the top teams in the country, but narrowly escaped with a win over the Boise State Broncos in Week 1 and has now dropped to 1-1 after a loss to Oklahoma State.

The Ducks have a ton of talent on their roster, but they haven't executed well in the first two weeks. Oregon will have to elevate their game the rest of the season to make it back to the College Football Playoff and contend for a National Championship.

Star quarterback Dante Moore struggled in the first half, completing five of 15 passes for 45 yards. This was uncharacteristic of the Heisman Trophy contender and contributed to the Ducks' struggles.

He ended the day by completing 14 of 29 passes for 191 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. It was an inefficient game for Moore, after completing 71.8 percent of his passes in the 2025 season. 

However, the defense was the main problem for Oregon, as they allowed 39 points. Devon Jackson came away with a pick-six, and Matayo Uiagalelei added an interception, but those were the only shining moments on defense. 

Oklahoma State quarterback Drew Mestemaker diced up the Ducks' defense, completing 26 of 43 passes for 317 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions while rushing for 109 yards and a touchdown on six carries.

Oregon also couldn't contain running back Caleb Hawkins as he rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.

Dan Lanning and the coaching staff have a ton of work to do to turn the defense around and make it one of the best units in the country, as expected.

The Ducks have not played close to their potential in the 2026 season and will drop in the rankings ahead of Week 3. Oregon will have to elevate their play for the remainder of the season to rise back up the rankings and earn a spot in the College Football Playoff.
