Pitt vs Miami University Prediction: Which Panther Team Will Show Up?

NCAAF College Football News, Photos, Stats, Scores, Schedule & Videos...

Pitt is a lot of things, but it’s certainly not boring.

It was good enough to be deep in the hunt for the ACC Championship until the end, and then it lost to East Carolina in the Military Bowl. Yeah, okay, it’s a bowl, and several players take off, but the program also dropped the GameAbove Sports Bowl to Toledo the season before.

Under head coach Pat Narduzzi, Pitt is a program that could beat Tennessee and Clemson early in 2021, and lose to Western Michigan. It could start 7-0 in 2024 and end up 7-6.

And it could have a team good enough to push for the ACC Championship and a College Football Playoff spot, yet still lose to a Miami University team with the makeup to win this without being the slightest bit stunning.

Pitt vs Miami University: Quick Hits

  • It’s all about consistency with Pitt. It has dangerous playmakers on offense, and, as always, its pass rush will be great, but the team has to set a tone for the season with an even effort.
  • Miami University has to challenge the Pitt secondary. The Panthers have a few new starters, and they’ll be under pressure right away.
  • Pitt has won six straight season openers and 11 of the last 12. Miami has lost 16 of the last 18 openers – the three-game 2020 season was one outlier, and the other win was against Presbyterian in 2015.

Why Miami University Will Win

Miami University has the type of team to take the game tempo and grind it down to a dead stop – or, at least, play at its own pace.

It might not have a whole lot of returning firepower, and it’ll be in big trouble if it has to get into any sort of firefight, but it’ll keep the chains moving, the ground game will be effective behind a terrific offensive line, and the defense, with its fabulous pass rush, can take care of the rest.

Why Pitt Will Win

Score fast, make Miami bust out of its shell, and then turn the pass rush loose.

As good as the RedHawks are and will be, they’re replacing almost all of the key skill parts. They brought in plenty of options through the portal, but there aren’t enough high-end starters to worry about an explosion.

Pitt vs Miami University Prediction, Betting Lines

Pitt will get star quarterback Mason Heintschel going early, but this year’s team has the running game with Ja’Kyrian Turner and Western Kentucky’s La’Vell Wright to take over at times.

Miami University’s new offensive coordinator Gus Ragland will try to open things up a bit more and get the passing game going, but it’ll be the defense that will keep this close. Pitt will win, but it’ll work for it.
