Stephen A. Smith calls for ‘law & order’ ahead of Ole Miss-LSU showdown

Stephen A. Smith has called for “law and order” ahead of Saturday’s heated college football showdown between Ole Miss and LSU in Oxford.
Speaking on The Stephen A. Smith Show, Smith addressed concerns surrounding Lane Kiffin’s return to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Kiffin left Ole Miss for LSU after the 2025 regular season, creating a tense backdrop for the first meeting between the coach and his former program.
“If Ole Miss wins this football game, you are not going to stop students from storming that field,” Smith said. “I promise you that. Get the hell over it.”

Smith also pointed to the expected crowd and security presence surrounding the top-10 matchup. Mississippi officials are deploying roughly 65 to 70 state troopers, along with additional law enforcement resources.
“There’s going to be anywhere from 80 to 100,000 people in attendance for this game,” Smith said. “There’s 350,000 people in the city.”
Smith then focused on protecting Kiffin and the LSU players while allowing fans to express themselves.
“You can heckle, you can boo, you can spew your venom,” Smith said. “No bottle throwing, no golf ball throwing, no guns, no knives, nothing like that.”
Ole Miss-LSU has major football stakes
The emotions will surround a game featuring No. 7 LSU and No. 8 Ole Miss, with both teams entering at 2-0. LSU has scored 48 points per game, while Ole Miss has averaged 41 points through two games.
The matchup also presents clear structural questions. LSU’s defense has allowed only 12 points per game, while Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has thrown five touchdowns with one interception.
Smith urged fans to keep those competitive emotions within reasonable limits.
“We have an obligation over the airwaves like this to make sure that we disseminate a message to the masses that calls for law and order,” Smith said.
He added, “Let’s make sure we’re thinking along those lines. Don’t be that way. That’s not right.”

For Ole Miss, Pete Golding faces Kiffin after taking over the program. For LSU, Kiffin must manage the hostile environment while keeping his team focused on its first SEC game.
The football result will ultimately shape the SEC standings, but Saturday’s biggest test may also involve discipline away from the scoreboard.
