Updated SEC standings after Texas A&M's stunning loss to Kentucky

Texas A&M dropped to No. 20 and No. 23 in the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 rankings on Sunday afternoon after losing to unranked Kentucky at home 31-21, which is by far the worst loss under third-year coach Mike Elko, who is now feeling the pressure to turn things around just three weeks into the 2026 season.

While starting quarterback Marcel Reed struggled in the pocket, completing 53% of his passes for just one touchdown and two interceptions, and while I myself have defended the redshirt junior signal caller, this game was more proof that Reed has failed to take another step as a pocket passer, and with SEC play in full gear, the Aggies can't afford his inability to be a reliable option.

For the fans asking for a quarterback change, sophomore Brady Hart likely isn't ready to take over and provide a spark, meaning Marcel Reed will need to play much better and get out of his head, as Mike Elko stated after the loss that he believes Reed was "pressing," which goes back to the mental mistakes that led to last season's back-to-back losses to Texas and Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff.

As harsh as that sounds, Marcel Reed took full accountability after Saturday's loss, and for those blaming first-year OC Holmon Wiggins, wide receivers were consistently open, and the offensive line, despite 18 pressures allowed, gave Reed enough time to scan the field and hit his receivers.

Texas A&M's defense also struggled, allowing 408 total yards, but Mike Elko and DC Lyle Hemphill have to fix these issues. Around the rest of the SEC, No. 1 Texas blew out UTSA, but didn't look like the team we saw in the second half against Ohio State, while Ole Miss' exciting 32-24 win over LSU solidified the Rebels as one of the most dangerous teams in the conference, while Georgia just continues to blow out its opponents.
