Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover wants to be great and showed why on Saturday. The TCU transfer left his blood, sweat and tears out on the field in a 52-16 rout of North Texas.

Hoover took one heck of a battle scar in the game against the Mean Green. He overcame a severe bloody nose to score Indiana's third touchdown in the second quarter.

This came from a facemask penalty with his helmet getting pulled almost all the way off his head. Hoover's nose was split, resulting in blood rushing down the quarterback's face on the drive. He stayed in the game and pounded the ball into the end zone.

Hoover got stitched up and returned on the next drive with a bandage over his nose. Indiana took a 24-6 halftime lead before cruising to the 36-point victory. Hoover threw two more touchdowns in the second half. He ended the game with 231 yards and four touchdowns in his IU debut.

Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers picked up where they left off from last season. Hoover didn't skip a beat by replacing Heisman Trophy winner and top NFL Draft pick Fernando Mendoza. The passing offense and kickoff returns looked strong, but Cignetti wouldn't be happy with the penalties (5-48 yards) or a few gaps in the defense. Those will be areas to work on in the coming weeks.
