LSU football is in a new era led by Lane Kiffin, and with that being the case, it’s best to leave some of the not-so-great moments from the past few years in the past.

Optimism has returned, so let’s look at some of the exciting parts of LSU’s football program for the 2026 season.

Lane Kiffin and Sam Leavitt

For the first people, I decided that combining these two in a single section would be best. Kiffin’s becoming the head coach automatically catapulted the expectations for this team. He is one of the best offensive minds in college football, especially with his QBs. So, when LSU also got former Arizona State QB Sam Leavitt from the transfer portal, the future became much brighter.

Leavitt had a down year filled with injuries last season, but the year before, he looked like a future top pick in the NFL Draft. Now, with Kiffin helping the young QB develop further, an exciting partnership was created in Baton Rouge.

Blake Baker

Sticking with the coaches, Blake Baker’s time in Baton Rouge may end after this season, but not because of a firing. Baker nearly left LSU this offseason for a HC gig. That was after a pretty impressive season with a surprisingly good defense, but for 2026, the defense could be even better.

LSU was able to get two pass rushers who can strike fear in opposing offensive linemen and QBs: Princewill Umanmielen and Jordan Ross. When you combine their pass rush potential with a young and talented DB room, turnovers are bound to happen.

Trey’Dez Green

The 2026 roster has talent sprinkled throughout, but the team’s MVP may come from the TE room. Since getting on the field for the first time in Baton Rouge, Trey’Dez Green has been one of the most exciting players on offense. At 6-foot-7, Green is the definition of a contested threat, but what makes him really special is his athleticism. After the catch, Green has the ability to break away for big gains and change the outlook of any drive.

He’s not a complete player yet, but this is the perfect year to take that next step in his development.
