5-star Jermaine Cobbins delivers game-winning heroics, now heads to Ole Miss-LSU

Down by six and facing a fourth-and-long with 33 seconds remaining, Springfield (TN) needed for one of its stars to step up.
Thankfully for the Yellow Jackets, one of the top players in the country for the 2028 class, who was rocking some custom cleats with "HIM" stitched into them, was lining up for them outside in five-star Jermaine Cobbins.
Cobbins rose to the occasion, catching the 11-yard touchdown pass to put the Yellow Jackets up and then helped bat down a last-second Hail Mary attempt from East Nashville (TN) to secure the 27-26 win. As exciting as the night and the moment was, Cobbins doesn't have a lot of time to celebrate.
On Saturday, Cobbins is heading down to Oxford, Mississippi, to take in what is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year as LSU head coach Lane Kiffin makes his return to Mississippi for a top 10 showdown with Ole Miss.
"I'm very excited," Cobbins said. "It's probably going to be one a loud game with it being a night game and Lane Kiffin coming back. I don't know how the fans are going to act but I know it's going to be a really good game."
Both Ole Miss and LSU are two of the more than 40 programs that have extended an offer out to the ALL-USA TODAY Southeast selection. This will be the second time this season that Cobbins has seen LSU as he was in Baton Rouge for the Tigers' season-opener against Clemson.
He's also taken trips to Oxford before, but Saturday night will be unlike anything he's experienced from either school before.
"I've got a great relationship with both schools," Cobbins noted. "I've been on the phone with both of them almost every day. Me and Coach (Marcus) Woodson and Coach (Pete) Golding have a great relationship. I have a great relationship with Coach (Lane) Kiffin, Coach O (Ed Orgeron) and Coach C-Ray (Corey Raymond) as well so it's all love between both schools."
Saturday night's game presents both programs to make an impression on several notable high school recruits that are expected to be in attendance for the game.
Giving everything that will be going on before, during and after the game, it would make sense for Cobbins to maybe have some nerves going into that environment. However, he's been to Oxford before and in a lot of ways, it reminds him of being back in Springfield on crazy nights where he's making game-winning catches.
"I love it there to be honest," Cobbins said of his previous experiences in Oxford. "It's just a small town just like Springfield. Kind of a throwback, country and overall college town.
…getting to be able to be there for a game like that is a good feeling, but I'm trying to be the top, top guy in my class so I'm just going to keep pushing day by day."
