The underrated receiver from Oregon State, Jesse Legree, continues to turn heads and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down either.

In recent years, true freshman receivers have shown they can take over the college football world, such as Malachi Toney from Miami and Jeremiah Smith from Ohio State. But to see this level of production at such a young age from a program like Oregon State, which is more under the radar, is quite impressive. The college football world is buzzing about this freshman.

Jesse Legree Is Turning Heads Across College Football

One college football analyst said, “It’s not even in question, Jesse Legree is a top 3 WR in college football.”

To be considered a top 3 receiver in the nation only five games into the season and his career is quite the feat, and it’s not necessarily a hyperbolic take. He’s already top 3 in the country in both receiving yards and touchdowns. It’ll be interesting to see if he can keep this up now that there’s more film on him and defenses can start zeroing in on the star freshman.

A college football columnist wrote on Twitter, “Let’s just save the Pac-12 staff the trouble and call Jesse Legree — 3 TDs and 157 yards so far — the Freshman of the Week for the fifth straight week.”

Special numbers from a special player, and it looks like he’s another lock for Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors. At this point, you might as well give him the conference’s Freshman of the Year award already. The numbers don’t lie, and he’s showing no signs of letting up.

Legree has the second-best PFN’s CFB WR Impact ranking right now in the country, only behind Malachi Toney and above Jeremiah Smith. Truly elite talent.

College football analyst from PFN, Cam Mellor, wrote, “We’ve done a lot of talking about star players — and yet not enough are talking about this young man still. Jesse Legree is a bona fide STAR for Oregon State.”

Bona fide star in the making out there in Oregon State, with Legree and his QB Braden Atkinson showing they might be one of the best 1-2 punches in the country.

Talks will, unfortunately, start about whether Oregon State can keep players like Legree on the roster with NIL and the transfer portal taking over college football. The more hype he gets, the harder it could become for Oregon State to retain him.

Mellor also said, “Posting for awareness of the monster that is Jesse Legree out in Corvallis.”

This came with a picture comparing the stats of Legree and Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith, and the numbers are scary similar. Legree has 16 fewer catches but the same number of touchdowns (9), while averaging nearly 8 more yards per catch. It shows just how electric he is with the ball in his hands, but also without it, thanks to his speed and crisp route running.

Oregon State has the next one up on their star player, who somehow slipped through the cracks. Now it’s going to be up to them to find a way to keep him now that the secret is out.
