The top-10 contest between Notre Dame and BYU on Oct. 17 is quickly becoming one of the most highly anticipated matchups in college football.

The game has such strong College Football Playoff implications that ESPN couldn’t ignore it. That’s why the Worldwide Leader in Sports will have College GameDay in Provo, Utah next Saturday over another top-10 matchup, Ohio State at Indiana.

It’s the first time that College GameDay will be in Cougars’ territory since Oct. 24, 2009. In that game, the Cougars lost 38-7 to TCU. The Irish have been a staple of the program, having appeared 41 total times, the sixth-most of any school in the country.

The Cougars and the Irish last met on Oct. 8, 2022, a game that Notre Dame won 28-20.

Notre Dame and BYU, respectively ranked No. 3 and 8 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, are coming off wins this weekend. The Irish beat Stanford 58-7 on Saturday, while the Cougars knocked off Iowa State 24-10 on Friday.

After some upsets and moving pieces, the Cougars and the Irish might change spots in the rankings for the upcoming week.
