After a terrific start to the 2026 college football season, the Florida Gators and head coach Jon Sumrall are set to begin their SEC schedule this week against the Auburn Tigers on the road.
The Gators' Week Three battle against the fellow SEC program could have major implications on Florida's outlook, as a victory on Saturday would give the Gators their first 3-0 start to the season since 2019. However, in order to achieve such a phenomenal feat, Sumrall and his offense must produce against a Tigers' defense that has been successful so far this season.
When asked about the Gators' offense on Monday, Auburn defensive coordinator DJ Durkin gave high praise to running back Jadan Baugh, claiming the star playmaker is a key reason for the program's recent offensive success.
"They got some incredible talent offensively," Durkin stated. "They have, you know, playmakers all over the board. Starting with their running back. I mean, he's really good balance, body control, great feet; he's explosive, you know, tough to tackle."
Baugh's Impact on Florida's Offense
Baugh, since his arrival to the program back in 2024, has been nothing short of impressive.
During his first two seasons in Gainesville, the former four-star high school prospect accumulated 1,843 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 353 carries. Baugh caught the attention of the entire college football world last season after his incredible late-season performance against the Florida State Seminoles, where he finished with 38 carries for 266 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Now, with the backfield to himself and two games under his belt this season, the prolific running back has picked up where he left off in 2025. Baugh totaled 160 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries in the Gators' season opener against the Florida Atlantic Owls, followed by a 136-yard, two-touchdown performance in Week Two against the Campbell Fighting Camels.
The most intriguing part of Baugh's start to the 2026 college football season is his usage in the passing game. Baugh proved to be a terrific pass catcher out of the backfield during the 2025 season after recording 33 receptions for 210 receiving yards and two touchdowns. However, newly hired offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner has yet to unlock this part of his game throughout the first two regular-season contests.
In order for the Gators to pull away with a victory on Saturday evening, it's clear that Baugh must be the main facilitator on offense. Whether it's his presence on the ground or his dynamic pass-catching ability, Baugh must be a focal point of the offensive attack against the Tigers.
