Georgia wins vs. Oklahoma in College Football 27 sim

The No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs (3-0) face their biggest challenge of the early season, with the No. 24 Oklahoma Sooners (2-1) coming into Athens for the first time in program history. The Bulldogs have looked dominant, but they've faced two non-Power Four opponents (Tennessee State, Western Kentucky) and Arkansas, a bottom-tier SEC team. Oklahoma has had some hiccups on offense so far, but their defense under Brent Venables is still good enough to win games on their own. Safe to say, this game probably won't play out like the 2018 Rose Bowl at all.

Our College Football 27 simulation of the game echoed that sentiment. It was a low-scoring, hard-nosed game for most of the contest, but the Bulldogs won 27-12 over the Sooners.

The first quarter saw six points from Oklahoma after their defense picked off Gunner Stockton twice. The offense couldn't convert on their opportunities and had to settle for field goals. Georgia finally broke through to score a touchdown in the second quarter, but to end the half, Oklahoma kicked a field goal to make it 9-7.

The third quarter was all Georgia. Stockton found tight end Lawson Luckie for a touchdown to make it 14-9, then Peyton Woodring kicked a field goal to make it 17-9 entering the fourth quarter. In the fourth, Oklahoma kicked another field goal to make it 17-12 and a one-score game, but Nate Frazier broke through with the dagger touchdown to make it 24-12. Georgia would get another field goal drive to milk some clock to reach the final score of 27-12.

Gunner Stockton was solid, but spotty. He completed 27 of his 32 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw two interceptions, giving Oklahoma opportunities to score on short fields. The Oklahoma offense couldn't capitalize; John Mateer went 23 for 32 with 184 yards and no touchdowns, while the running game mustered just 66 total yards. Georgia's running game held up just fine, with Nate Frazier collecting 112 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.

The Oklahoma defense did its part. They went into the backfield a lot, earning 10 tackles for loss, and Jayden Jackson had 1.5 sacks. Linebackers Kip Lewis and Cole Sullivan snagged interceptions, and Lewis forced a fumble too. However, Georgia just did a good job of making sure Oklahoma couldn't pick up yards, and that was all that mattered.

Since Georgia is the favorite by 13.5 points, that would mean Georgia covers in this game. The over of 44.5 points or more didn't hit. Georgia fans are hoping for this result, because it shows that even if the Oklahoma defense plays as well as they can, the Bulldogs can still win the game.
