The Lane Kiffin era in Baton Rouge began after LSU consistently struggled to deliver in big games under Brian Kelly. However, Kiffin also endured a setback in his first major test as the Tigers’ head coach, falling 32-24 to his former team, Ole Miss, in Week 3.
With LSU now looking to bounce back, Breiden Fehoko, who won a national championship with the Tigers, believes the upcoming game against Texas A&M will present another significant challenge for Kiffin and his team.
Lane Kiffin Gets Blunt Message From Breiden Fehoko Ahead of Texas A&M Game
LSU will welcome Mike Elko’s Texas A&M team to Baton Rouge on Saturday, as the clash is seen as a make-or-break game for Kiffin’s squad after the Ole Miss loss. Meanwhile, the Aggies are also looking to bounce back after suffering a disappointing loss to Kentucky, which caused them to fall 14 spots from No. 9 to No. 23 in the latest AP rankings.
Both teams will enter the upcoming matchup ranked and at 2-1 after suffering their first defeats of the season. Texas A&M has also had the upper hand recently, winning the last two meetings, including a convincing 49-25 win in 2025.

While some now see LSU as having the advantage, Fehoko has much higher expectations for his alma mater.
“Ole Miss is better than LSU, and LSU needs to have a gut check this week before they play A&M,”Fehoko said in his podcast. “And I need to see a dominant win. I don’t need it to be close.”
The demand comes after LSU was outplayed by Ole Miss in front of a record crowd at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium last week. The defeat also continued Kiffin’s struggles against highly ranked opponents on the road, dropping him to 1-9 against AP Top 10 teams and 2-19 against Top 25 teams in road games.
Given LSU’s heavy financial commitment to Kiffin, Fehoko sees Saturday’s game as an especially important test.
“Like LSU’s given Lane Kiffin $50 million to allocate resources for that team,” Fehoko added. “They’ve given him $100 million in a new contract. They gave Brian Kelly a $50 million buyout. So when you talk about what needs to be done, there needs to be wins.
“You can’t lose to Ole Miss, who is always going to be a tier below LSU, and I say that biasedly because of what history has said. Like LSU has genuinely and generally always been historically better than Ole Miss, but for Lane Kiffin, I’m looking at it like, dude, you got to go win this week. It’s do or die.”

The loss to Ole Miss also hurt LSU’s College Football Playoff outlook. According to PFN’s CFB Playoff Meter, the Tigers’ chances of reaching the 12-team playoff have fallen to 51.4%.
A big win over Texas A&M will regain the buzz around Kiffin’s program.
