Lane Kiffin’s first season with LSU has been full of headline-worthy moments so far. From the controversy surrounding his Ole Miss exit to losing to the Rebels in the Magnolia Bowl, the discussion around the Tigers has been nonstop.
Meanwhile, as the SEC and LSU continue their legal fight, the reaction surrounding Kiffin’s early tenure shows no signs of slowing down.
CFB World Questions LSU’s Approach to Lane Kiffin-SEC Dispute
The dispute between Kiffin’s LSU and the SEC continues to rise, as the conference filed an amended complaint over LSU’s reported plans to add former NFL players to its roster on Sept. 8.
The SEC’s presidents and chancellors were scheduled to consider LSU’s conference membership, but no expulsion vote was ultimately taken. By then, LSU had finalized its roster without Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris.
Meanwhile, Louisiana Attorney General Elizabeth Murrill filed a motion on Friday seeking to have the SEC’s complaint dismissed with prejudice and requesting that the conference cover the legal costs.

The SEC quickly responded, expressing frustration with LSU’s latest legal move while the two sides were reportedly still discussing a potential resolution to the dispute.
CFB analyst Brennon Chapman was among those reacting to the latest development.
“The Lane Kiffin era at LSU is off to quite a start,” Chapman wrote. “Tried to add two former NFL players. Neither made the roster. Got sued by their own conference. Had the Governor of Louisiana on national TV defending the whole thing. Went back to Oxford and lost his Super Bowl 32-24 to Ole Miss.
“And just when it looked like the SEC fight might finally be cooling off, the conference says its concerns with LSU ‘remain unresolved’ and it is preparing its response in federal court. We’re three games into the Lane Kiffin era.”
Rebels fanpage, Everything Ole Miss, also shared reaction:
“The SEC and LSU continue their feud. Just when you thought things had settled, LSU stirs it all up again. This is not going to end well for the guys in Baron Rouge. Might I add, they sure could’ve used those NFL players last weekend. What a shame.”
Murrill explained that, in her view, the SEC had filed its federal complaint against LSU and involved her office without providing prior notice.
Murrill later reported that the lawsuit lacked legal merit and that the Alabama court did not have jurisdiction over the matter. She added that she had given the SEC two weeks to withdraw what she characterized as a frivolous lawsuit, but after the conference declined to do so, she believed taking legal action was necessary to protect Louisiana’s interests.
As the fallout continues, people continued sharing their reactions.
“LSU playing a dangerous financial game #SEC,” one wrote.
Breiden Fehoko, who won a national championship with LSU, also called out the controversy.
“No adults in the room. None,” Fehoko wrote.
“I’m no lawyer nor am I gonna pretend to be one. All I know is it feels like LSU thinks that because the season began and they didn’t have NFL players on their roster that this whole lawsuit would go away. That’s just not how that works,” one wrote.

With the SEC battle still continuing, Kiffin and LSU must now turn their attention back to the field. The Tigers now have a 51.4% chance of reaching the 12-team College Football Playoff after the Ole Miss loss, according to PFN.
