Alabama had appeared to be in the best position to secure the rights to 2027 Chicago (Ill.) Mount Carmel four-star safety Tavares Harrington, but Michigan football has been surging in his recruitment. Also doing well with his high school teammate, four-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell, Harrington visited Ann Arbor for the annual spring game this year, and the maize and blue are increasingly looking like the team to beat.

So much so that in the last 24 hours, three Rivals national analysts — Steve Wiltfong, Allen Trieu, and Greg Smith — have put in predictions that he'll eventually become a Wolverine.

And when might that be? According to Rivals, Harrington will make his decision known on May 22, just 10 days from now, and just over a week after his teammate, Burrell, will announce his school of choice.

Here is his scouting report from 247Sports' Andrew Ivins:

-Reactionary outside corner with the length that everyone covets these days.-Can bump and run or play off-man in a Cover 2 look.-Anticipates throws and drives to the catch point, usually arriving on schedule.-Works to maintain leverage with his pedal and lateral quickness, but deep speed can present issues.-Got much more involved as a run defender over the course of junior campaign and has showcased the ability to wrangle larger ball carriers down on the perimeter.-Broke up 15 passes as a sophomore before coming down with three interceptions as a junior.-Should be viewed as a taller zone cornerback with multi-year starter upside that could offer some safety flex given how he tackles and tracks the football.

Harrington is rated highest by ESPN, which has him as the No. 102 player in the country, regardless of position. He's the 13th-rated safety and No. 7 player in the state of Illinois. He's listed at 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, and is a consensus four-star according to the recruiting services.

Alabama and Notre Dame are his other finalists. Michigan currently has one other safety committed in Las Vegas (Nev.) Centennial three-star Maxwell Miles.
