The good news continues to roll in for the Oregon Ducks on the recruiting trail. Just a few hours after the Ducks earned a commitment from five-star wideout Dakota Guerrant, the program saw one of its longest-standing commitments finally shut down his recruiting process.

Three-star linebacker Sam Ngata announced on Tuesday that he shut down his recruitment, locking in his commitment with the Ducks. He committed to the Ducks in January, the second-longest commitment in the class. He chose Oregon over Cal, BYU and Michigan.

Ngata is one of the legacy recruits the Ducks have gone after lately on the recruiting trail. The son of former Duck and five-time NFL Pro Bowl defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, the 6-foot-5 linebacker from Salt Lake City has been a vocal piece in Oregon’s class to pull in other recruits.

As a junior at Olympus High School, Ngata was credited with 66 tackles, one sack and one interception. The Ducks have since added four-star linebackers Brandon Lockley Jr. and Toa Satele, but Ngata’s established connection to the program is

Ngata’s father had a 13-year career in the NFL, winning a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens and earning two first-team All-Pro nominations. He also represents Oregon in the College Football Hall of Fame, having been a Pac-10 Co-Defensive Player of the Year and a consensus All-American in 2005 with the Ducks.

As a legacy recruit, Ngata is joined by corner Josiah Molden, the top recruit in Oregon in the 2027 cycle and the son of former Oregon corner Alex Molden, and redshirt-freshman quarterback Akili Smith Jr., the son of former Oregon quarterback Akili Smith. Legarrette Blount Jr., son of ex-Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount, has also received an offer from the Ducks.

Ngata is one of 18 commitments in Oregon’s class, which is tracking for a top-five finish in the national rankings.
