Pair of Oklahoma Sooners selected to CBS Sports All-American team

The Oklahoma Sooners enter the 2026 season with arguably their most talented team in the Brent Venables era. Coming off a 10-2 season and a College Football Playoff appearance. A little more than a couple of weeks away from the start of the regular season, two of Oklahoma's best players were first-team selections to CBS Sports' All-American team.

Defensive tackle David Stone and Kicker Tate Sandell earned All-American honors.

Stone is one of the more high-profile defensive tackles in college football, earning selection to a number of watch lists this summer and projected to be taken in the first round of the 2027 NFL Draft. He's coming off a season in 2025 where he was first among defensive tackles in snaps with 454, playing in all 13 games last season. He was fourth on the team in total pressures and tied for third in stops, according to Pro Football Focus. And the expectation is he'll have an even bigger impact in 2026.

Sandell returns to the Sooners after winning the Lou Groza award, given to the nation's best kicker. Sandell went on a tear after missing his first kick of the season, hitting 24 in a row. That includes going 7-for-7 in road wins against Tennessee and Alabama in the Sooners' "Hard to Kill" run in November.

There's an argument to be made that All-SEC performers like Taylor Wein or Isaiah Sategna warranted consideration from CBS Sports. Neither made the first or second team.

Still, the Sooners have a roster filled with talented players on both sides of the ball. From Wein and Sategna to the Eli and Peyton Bowen to quarterback John Mateer. There are several players who could make their claim for All-American selections by the end of 2026.
